Personal data
This page describes what the centre does with the personal data collected by this site, under Act no. 2008-12 of 25 January 2008 on the protection of personal data.
Data controller
The data controller is the Centre d’Archivage et de Documentation Féministe, established in Dakar.
To be completed by the centre: full postal address, a dedicated email address for data requests, and the declaration or authorisation number issued by the Commission de protection des données personnelles.
What the site collects, and why
The centre collects only what it needs, and for a set period.
- Member account. Username, email address and encrypted password, to give you access to reserved items. Kept for as long as the account exists.
- Favourites. The list of archives you have set aside, so that you can find them again. Visible to you alone.
- Consultation log. The last sixty reserved items you have opened, so that you can return to them. Visible to you alone. Each item appears only once, at its most recent consultation.
- Contact form. Name, email address, subject and message, for the sole purpose of replying to you.
- Sign-in attempts. A counter tied to a fingerprint of your network address, kept for fifteen minutes, to limit repeated attempts. The address itself is not kept.
What the site does not do
- No data is sold, rented or passed to a third party.
- No advertising tracker is set.
- No audience measurement is in place to date.
- Typefaces are hosted on the site’s own server: your browser makes no request to an outside service to load them.
- No member can view or download another member’s data. Member-area pages build their content only from the current session.
Cookies
The site sets two strictly necessary cookies: the one that keeps your session while you are signed in, and the one that records the choice you make in the information banner. The latter is kept for six months.
No other cookie is set. The banner nevertheless lets you refuse in advance any audience measurement the centre might introduce. You can change your choice at any time from the “Manage cookies” link in the footer.
Your rights
The law gives you rights of access, rectification, objection and erasure over data concerning you.
The right of access is exercised directly from your member area: the “Download my data” button gives you a file containing your account record, your favourites and your consultation log. That file is built from your session and never contains another account’s data.
For rectification, objection or erasure, write to the centre at the address given on the contact page. The centre replies within the period set by law.
If the reply does not satisfy you, you may refer the matter to the Commission de protection des données personnelles, the authority established by Act no. 2008-12 to uphold these rights in Senegal.
Archives and identifiable people
An archive is by its nature a trace of real people. Some items in the collection show identifiable people, sometimes without their having been able to consent.
The centre applies access restrictions to those items: they are described publicly, but consulting them requires a reasoned request. Anyone who believes they are concerned may ask for an item to be withdrawn or restricted, quoting its reference.
Security
Files with restricted access are kept outside the server’s public folder and are released only after the requester’s rights have been checked. Passwords are stored encrypted, never in clear text.
To be completed by the centre: confirm that the site is served over HTTPS in production, failing which passwords and messages would travel in clear text.
Changes to this page
Any substantial change to the processing of personal data will lead to this page being updated and, where appropriate, to consent being sought again.
